When Partnerships were first established in the Diocese, our parish was placed in the Seaton Delaval Partnership with parishes in South East Northumberland. We worked together very well, although there were obvious anomalies – mainly the fact that our parish has always looked towards Newcastle rather than Northumberland in terms of education, transport links and leisure activities.
In 2020 Fr. Bill Agley was appointed as our Parish Priest. He was already Parish Priest of St. Charles, Gosforth, part of the Blackfriars Partnership. It became clear that changes would have to be made since working with two separate partnerships did not make sense.
The Chairs of the two parish Councils wrote to the Bishop and requested that the situation be reviewed. The upshot was that both parishes became members of the Jesmond St. Mary Partnership.
Parishes in this grouping are:
Sacred Heart, North Gosforth
Our Lady and St. Vincent, Walker
St. Teresa of the infant Jesus, Heaton
As a result of the pandemic, Fr. Bill’s move to South Shields in 2022 and the appointment of our new Dean, Fr. Michael, we have not worked together as much as we might have liked. However, it is hoped that joint activities will now become more frequent. Please see the minutes of meetings for more details.
